Tromso

PKN Tromso Vol. 13

PKN Tromso Vol. 13

Tromso’s PechaKucha Night Vol. 13 was part of the Global Cities Week, and here are few photos from the night that was. You’ll also find the list of presenters with links on the official event page. Organizer Magdalena Haggärde has this to say:

We had a really interesting lineup: our youngest presenters ever, Beatrice & Ingeborg 10 years old, opened, followed by the mayor Jens Johan Hjort (singing parts of his presentation) and other presenters sharing visions, passions and ideas.

I think we also had the youngest PKN participant ever — our three weeks old daughter Aile joined me as I hosted our Celebrating your city PKN.

And — as we already knew — we have the best of audiences: a kind of quiet situation occured as our programmed DJ didn’t show up, but luckily artist, musician and DJ Aggie of Frost who was there to attend the PKN, proposed to go get her records and provided excellent music the whole evening!

PKN Tromso Vol. 11

PKN Tromso Vol. 11

As we mentioned the other day (while showing off the poster), Tromso held its PechaKucha Night Vol. 11 this past Thursday, which doubled as an Inspire Japan event. Below, more from organizer Magdalena Haggarde. We’ll also be soon receiving one of the presentations (by Helder Neves) that we hope to share with you online — you’ll find all of the presenters listed on the event page.

Everything went so well, with several people from the audience proclaiming our Vol. 11 the best ever!
We really did have a great lineup, and a high level of presentations. Lots of interesting facts, knowledge, passions, reflections, projects and stories were shared.

From the photos I’ve sent, you may notice that we tried a new venue…well, new to us but quite old really — Ølhallen (the beer hall, yes indeed..) is one of the most emblematic “bars” in Tromsø and part of the Mack brewery. In some ways, PKN Tromsø returned “home,” since our first 7 PKNs were held in Kjeller5, another space in the labyrinthic complex that is the brewery quarter.

The Mack/Ølhallen people are so enthusiastic, sweet and supporting, letting us use their space when our usual venue gallery Kurant couldn’t host us due to exhibition preparations — but as you can see, the interior is…interesting! But we realised that PechaKucha fits in and makes its space anywhere, whatever the surroundings!

PKN Tromso + Inspire Japan

PKN Tromso + Inspire Japan

Tromso’s PechaKucha Night Vol. 11 will be an Inspire Japan event, and it happens this Thursday (May 26) at Olhallen — you’ll find the full list of presenters with links on the official event page. Proceeds and donations will all go to our continued reconstruction efforts in Japan. The poster is by Tank, who are part of the PKN Tromso organizing team. Here’s a bit more on the event from organizer Magdalena Haggarde:

We are collaborating with the norwegian Year of Architecture 2011, and focusing on urban processes, architecture and landscape architecture with several architects, landscape architects and artists on the list of presenters. We are also happy to have Bjørn Erik Olsen as a presenter — he has lived for several years in Japan and is an aikido, tea and sushi enthusiast and master, with lots of knowledge and experience.

Poster for PKN Tromso Vol. 9

Last night was a big night for the PechaKucha Night global community, with 9 events happening, including our pre-Tokyo Design Week edition here in Tokyo. One of those nine cities was Tromso with its — appropriately enough — Vol. 9, of which we still wanted to share the poster despite the fact that the event is over. You can also find the list of presenters with links on the official event page.

Presenting at PechaKucha Night in Tromso Vol. 6 were Jens K Styve and Espen Sandberg of Tank Design. Their presentation was made up of their list of some of Tromso’s iconic signs, graded according to a few characteristics, like charm, typography, nostalgia, and more.

PKN Tromso Vol. 6

PKN Trosmo Vol. 6

Even though Tromso has already had its Vol. 7 (last week), here’s a look at Vol. 6, held on October 1. As organizer Magdalena Haggarde tells us, the presentations were a varied bunch: “film directors, film animators, curators, globetrotters, and a former mayor of Tromsø, who has, with his fiancée, traveled the world by freight ship since he left his mayor job in 2007!”
