PechaKucha Night in San Francisco Vol. 45 is happening right now (June 21) at SPUR Headquarters, and as the flyer reveals, it’s all about being “Denser” and celebrating urban spaces — you’ll find the list of presenters with links on the official event page.

PechaKucha Night in San Francisco Vol. 44 happens tonight (May 23) at 330 Rich (and yes, that’s both the name of the venue and the street address). See the official event page for more info as well as the full list of presenters with links.

Today we start with a presentation taken from PechaKucha Night in San Francisco Vol. 37, with architect David Fletcher and his “Devouring Architecture” tour of 9 competitions (with a bonus). You can find more presentations from PKN San Francisco by visiting the official city page, or go directly to the San Francisco section of the site’s “Presentations” area.

Kirk Bergstrom

Today we cover another presentation from PechaKucha Night in San Francisco Vol. 37 — if you missed the presentation we featured yesterday by Architecture for Humanity’s Cameron Sinclair, do take a look — with Kirk Bergrstrom and his “Emergence Through Emergency” talk — “When we understand nature’s coordinate system, we learn how to do more with less.”

Cameron Sinclair

And now for one of the presentations that capped the entire “Global PechaKucha Night for Haiti” event, Architecture for Humanity’s Cameron Sinclair walking us, step by step and in detail, on what exactly is required in order to rebuild Haiti.

The PechaKucha Presentation WAVE for Haiti started on 20th February in Auckland, New Zealand and 117 cities and 20 hours later it ended in San Francisco where Cameron Sinclair, founder of Architecture For Humanity, was ready to give one of the final PechaKucha Presentations on this amazing day for Haiti. Take it away Cameron!

And again, just a reminder that donations are still being accepted to help with the reconstruction efforts.

Bob Berkebile

Today’s presentation — recorded during PechaKucha Night in San Francisco Vol. 33 at the Autodesk Gallery — is a powerful one, as Bob Berkebile talks about how failure can lead to profound changes.

How could a man witness the fatal failure of a bridge the Hyatt Regency Hotel designed by his own firm in Kansas City in 1981 lead him to transform his firm, BNIM, into one of founders of the US Green Building Council and have a profound impact on how our buildings impact the entire planet?

The theme for this PechaKucha was “FAILURE.” In April 2009, this was a theme everyone was confronting in one way or another. Bob Berkebile came to this event fully aware of how failures, some his own and others he merely witnessed, have the potential to shape lives — for the better. During the course of his 20 slides, he expressed in a very uniquely personal way the mindset and imagination necessary to see failures as the opportunities for insight that they can be.

Angelie Agarwal and Julie Hayes

Today we highlight a presentation that’s all about proper manners on public transit, courtesy of “anonymous” bloggers Angelie Agarwal and Julie Hayes, as they talk about their site, Muni Manners.

An etiquette guide for the transit savvy.

As loyal riders of public transit, we’ve seen our commutes change with the rise of iPods and the fall of public decorum. This new kind of etiquette guide picks up where Miss Manners leaves off.

Mark Dytham Checks Out PKN San Francisco

San Francisco 33

PechaKucha Night in San Francisco Vol. 36 happens next week (July 30), but we just found this photo of PKN co-creator Mark Dytham, presenting in the Autodesk Gallery for PKN San Francisco Vol. 33 back in May — more photos from that night can be seen in this Flickr photoset.

PKN San Francisco Vol. 34

PKN San Francisco Vol. 34

PechaKucha Night in San Francisco packed in the crowds — close to 400 — at the Harlot club for a Vol. 34 that was all about “causes” — see our post from earlier today. If there were any complaints it’s that the venue could barely keep up with demand, resulting in a waiting line to get in — a problem we’ve been encountering in Tokyo as well — but it’s hard to not get excited by such interest and enthusiasm for PKN.
