Orange County in the Middle of China, and a Storm Trooper Prepares for His PK Debut

PKN Toronto Vol. 15

Presentations
The first of our two presentations today, “Inside Wood and Paint: The Heart of Making,” comes from PKN Taos Vol. 3, and sees Patti Tronolone sharing her paintings and furniture pieces, linking the latter to her love of nature. The second presentation is Kotama Bouabane’s “Chinese’s Replication of Orange County” (PKN Toronto Vol. 15) in which he reveals a Beijing suburb that was made to look like Orange County in California.

PKN Lisbon Vol. 14

Posters
We’ve got two new posters on our Tumblr blog today, one for this Sunday’s PKN Lisbon Vol. 14 (above), and one for PKN Kumamoto Vol. 3, which is set for June 1.

Photos
We of course have a few new galleries to share with you today, but also a fantastic teaser video for the upcoming PKN Guimaraes Vol. 2, above (produced by Damnworks).

And we’re not quite sure what the significance of the following photo is (from Flickr user Kalexandersen), but with the title “On stage for a PechaKucha,” it felt natural to include it.

Calendar
We covered in yesterday’s post what you can expect from tonight in terms of events (5 PKNs), but for the weekend, Saturday (May 19) will see two Japanese series with new volumes, with PKN Kitakyushu Vol. 6 and PKN Nara Vol. 2. On Sunday (May 20), there’s the aformentioned PKN Lisbon Vol. 14, as well as PKN Mendoza Vol. 4. For a peek at what next week has to offer, have a look at the full calendar.

We’ve already mentioned the terrific venue, but here’s also a look at the flyer (one side) for Friday’s (July 30) PechaKucha Night in Cleveland Vol. 8.

PKN Cleveland in the Courtyard

PKN Cleveland Vol. 8

PechaKucha Night in Cleveland Vol. 8 happens this Friday (July 30), and it’s taking place in the the courtyard you see pictured above, which is located in downtown Cleveland. From co-organizer Michael Christoff:

Not only do we have another great set of presenters, but we are shooting for the stars with our FIRST ever PechaKucha Night event outdoors. As if that wasn’t stressful enough, we are doing it in an amazing courtyard in the middle of Downtown Cleveland, that hasn’t been open for more than 12 years! The building owner has been incredibly supportive, and we are getting an incredible response from the local design community here.

Getting to PKN Cleveland Vol. 5

Getting to PKN Cleveland Vol. 5

Cleveland is celebrating its PechaKucha Night one year anniversary tomorrow night (September 25), and it’s doing so by way of a very special venue: the catacombs and entire span of the subway/streetcar level of the Detroit Superior Bridge (Veteran’s Memorial Bridge)! You’ll find more details on PKN Cleveland Vol. 5’s event page, as well as the map (also pictured above) that shows the exact location of the entrance.

PKN Cleveland Vol. 3

PKN Cleveland Vol. 3

PechaKucha Night returned to Cleveland earlier this month for a third edition, and as you’ll see from the photos — there’s a Flickr photoset — it was another great showing for the city. On top of the city greetings exchange we mentioned yesterday, we’re pretty excited about the venue that organizers Mike Christoff and Raseem Parker are planning to use for Vol. 5 (to be held in the fall), “a virtually abandoned Subway Tunnel/Bridge Deck that runs underneath Cleveland’s Detroit Superior Bridge in conjunction with an Arts Fest.” Should be amazing.

City Greetings: From Cleveland to Athens

Greetings from Cleveland

Exchanging photographic or video greetings between PechaKucha Night cities is something we’ve been seeing for a while now, and here’s an example of some good luck cheers between two cities — Cleveland and Athens — who recently celebrated their third and second volumes respectively. Pictured above, greetings from Cleveland.
