In “Speculative Design,” Jessica Charlesworth shares with us various ideas and tools to help make decisions about our future. She works for public and private sector organizations, helping them explore the eventual implications of their field. The presentation was recorded at PechaKucha Night in Chicago Vol. 19.

This is the kind of story that can’t help but put a smile on your face. Here then is Crandon Gustafson in his own words — and that’s him giving his presentation at PechaKucha Night in Chicago, in April of last year (at the city’s Inspire Japan event).
I had flown in that morning from Tokyo, arriving just a few hours before PechaKucha. After the presentations, [Sakae] approached to thank me for the small work I had done for Japan. Since we’re both architects and she was new to Chicago, I suggested we talk further about local design and architecture, and we met for dinner a week later. When I returned from Japan that day, I didn’t expect to go back for awhile, but in June we flew to Tokyo together so I could meet her family! We had a small ceremony in a Chicago area Buddhist temple on October 1st. Every month we celebrate the 16th day as the anniversary of our meeting at PechaKucha!

Today’s presentation was recorded a while back at PechaKucha Night in Chicago Vol. 9, and features indie band All Things Lucid talking about what it takes to keep going.
Six years in the scene and just getting started, this Chicago indie rock band is made on more than just music. Miles Benjamin, programmer, Michael Kostal, designer, Jeff Wolinski, filmmaker, and Paul Gulyas, audio engineer, come together for a common love of writing, performing, and living in the world of art and music.

We have another city this week celebrating that magical PechaKucha Night Vol. 20, and that’s Chicago. The event happens tonight (December 6) at the city’s regular venue, Martyrs’ — you’ll find the full list of presenters with links on the official event page.
Earlier this month we mentioned that PechaKucha Night in Chicago organizer Peter Exley would be participating in the Chicago Tribune’s Chicago Live! event, and here’s video of Peter action.

Pictured in the upper right hand corner, that’s PechaKucha Night in Chicago organizer Peter Exley, and he’ll be part of an upcoming edition (on November 10) of Chicago Live!, produced by the Chicago Tribune — more details on this page.

PechaKucha Night in Chicago gets a nice piece in Time Out Chicago (”The new, cool lecture“), and this gives us an opportunity to mention that the city’s next event will be its momentous Vol. 20, set for December 6 at Chicago’s regular PKN home, Martyrs’. The photo above is by Thorsten Bosch.

Chicago is getting ready for its PechaKucha Night Vol. 19 (on September 6), and here’s the poster to prove it (designed by Rachel Yas). It will of course take place at Martyrs’, and you’ll find the full list of presenters with links on the official event page.

PechaKucha Night in Chicago organizer Peter Exley is in for a busy month, as last week’s Vol. 18 is now followed by a special one-off event as part of the 7th Annual Guerrilla Truck Show. It happens tomorrow (June 14) at 217 N. Carpenter St., and the poster was designed by Christina Kull. Here’s more from Peter:
The Guerrilla Truck Show coincides with NeoCon and gathers loads of designers showing their talents out of the back of trucks — it’s a big party, and this year, PK is right in the middle of it. We’ve assembled some seasoned PechaKucha Night Chicago veterans, and a few artists this tuesday, June 14, for a freebie — including some complimentary tasty libations.
