PKN Charlotte + Inspire Japan

PKN Charlotte + Inspire Japan

As we’ve stated in the past, Inspire Japan-related PechaKucha Nights will continue to happen through the end of May, and taking part is Charlotte’s PKN Vol. 8, happening this Thursday (April 28) at Amos’ Southend. Here’s a bit more on the poster, from organizer Manoj Kesavan:

We were playing with the “Viewmaster” idea before, but were inspired by “Inspire Japan” to make the whole poster a tribute to Japan. It is designed by designer Nikki Mueller whose creations have recently been getting a lot of attention regionally. Here is her story on designing the PK poster.

Charlotte is getting ready for its upcoming PechaKucha Night Vol. 7 (on October 1), and as organizer Manoj Kesavan tells us, it’s going to be a special one.

We are working on a very special PKN this time: It will be a part of the 24-hour Grand Opening Celebrations of the new building of the Mint Museum. It’s one of the oldest and largest museums of this region, and they are now moving to a new facility designed by Machado and Silvetti.

We will be having the PKN in the tall atrium (here are some early photos, but it is more impressive in person) and in addition to regular projectors and screens, we also plan on using a long-throw projector to project images on to the 5-storey curtain wall shades – so it will be visible from outside, as well as all the levels and galleries inside. It should be spectacular.

Maybe because it is a special event, we have had an overwhelming number of applications to present, so it should be very special content-wise too.

PechaKucha Night in Charlotte Vol. 6 is just over a week away (July 16), set to take place again at the Dharma Lounge. The poster (above) is by local design Santiago Crespo.

PKN Is the Best of Charlotte

PKN Charlotte

Big congratulations to the organizers of PechaKucha Night in CharlotteCharlotte Magazine selected PKN as the “Best Creative Gathering” in their “Best of…” issue for this year.

A spinoff of the arts-and-design-oriented discussion group Point8, the semiregular Pecha Kucha (pronounced puh-CHOK- cha, it’s Japanese for “the sound of conversation”) has become Charlotte’s most popular and electric gathering of creatives. The concept is simple: presenters are selected from a pool of applicants, and then each one gets twenty slides, twenty seconds per slide, on any topic. Watch, listen, discuss. All in a casual atmosphere with beer and wine. Look for the next one this fall.

PKN Charlotte Vol. 5

Sometimes, when you present at a PechaKucha Night, you just need (or want) to wear a wrestling mask. Such was the case at last week’s PKN Charlotte Vol. 5, as observed on the photo above. We highlight a few more photos of what appears to have been a lively evening in this post, but there’s more to see in this Flickr photoset. Loving that buddha with headphones in the background!
