We’ve been teasing it for a few weeks now, and we’d now like to officially announce our upcoming PechaKucha Global Cities Week, in which we are asking all of our organizers to celebrate their city at PKNs held during the week of February 20-26. By the end of the month we’ll have a special section on the site for the event — which will list all of the participating cities — but here are a few points to help explain what the event is all about. Big thanks also to Ian Lynam for another great logo (he’s also behind last year’s Inspire Japan logo).
What’s it all about?
It’s time to celebrate every PechaKucha city, globally. We thought this year, as a global event which brings all the PechaKucha cities, organizers, presenters and attendees together, we should focus attention on all of the amazing cities that make up the global PK community.
Have we done anything like this before?
For those who are new to PechaKucha Nights, this will be our 3rd global event. Our first was for Haiti, and we built a school! The second was Inspire Japan, and our event and ongoing efforts have helped spark many projects.
Why do it in February?
February 20 is the anniversary of the very first PechaKucha Night in 2003. Doing it in February helps kickstart the PechaKucha year.
So what is actually going to happen during Global Cities Week?
Ideally, there will be PechaKucha Nights where all the presentations focus on that city. Speakers could include the Mayor, a firefighter, a teacher, a city historian, schoolkids. What do they think about your city, what are the best things about it, what makes them proud to live there? What great thing happens in your city that no one really knows about and should? How could you improve your city? Presentations could be about the parks, the wildlife, the architecture, the manhole covers. Celebrate your city and share it with the rest of the PechaKucha network and beyond.
And if you’d like to take part as a presenter, contact your local organizer and let him or her know!

Update: We’ve prepared various web banners that you can use to help spread the word.
Update 2: We launched a proper mini site for the event.
