PKN Sevilla Vol. 8

Sevilla recently hosted its eighth PechaKucha Night, and organizer Pablo Sendra Fernandez sends in the following report on what appears to have been another terrific showing.

Another great night for PechaKucha Sevilla. This time, the event took place in a sala WAM, a bar where several cultural events take place. The sponsorship of the Andalusian Youth Institute, the Cultural Centre of the University of Seville and the Andalusian Centre of Contemporary Art helped us in having a luxury night with free drinks, free food, the best Spanish ham and other delicatessen.

After projecting the “Tokyo Calling” video from Astrid and Mark, we projected a video of a summary of all the PechaKucha Sevilla events (will be posted soon on the web) that introduced the concept of PechaKucha to those few that still don’t know what is PechaKucha in Sevilla. After this introduction, Raquel Dominguez explained how a degenerative illness that made her a handicapped person has actually brought out all the best qualities that she has: Raquel has been several times champion of Spain swimming and running and is one of the best handicapped sportswoman in the world. Currently, she is working in the radio and giving talks to companies in order to introduce handicapped people in the working life.

The second speaker was Rafael Contreras, who explained the structure of his company. After that, Salud López, winner of the “Creative Award” in Andalusia, explained her art installation. Then, the young architecture practice “LosdelDesierto” explained their concept of “hardcore architecture.” Just before the break, the director of the company “Alma Natura” explained how they have created a great company of rural tourism in a small village of no more than 1,000 inhabitants.

During the break, people enjoyed the music, the free drinks and the best Spanish ham and food. Like in all PechaKucha events, people use the break to make contacts and exchange ideas.

After the break, the young architecture practice “baum arquitectura” explained their research about the contemporary Chinese city. After them, Misael Rodriguez explained his work as a cultural manager in China and Holland. The young industrial designer Granada Barrero explained how all the elements of the everyday life are designed by people like her. Then, the architect Ignacio Martinez de Simone explained the worldwide company that he has created all around the world. To finish the event, we chose a well-known humorist from Spanish TV who made the entire public laugh.

The night continued after that. I left the bar at 4.30 a.m. and it was still crowded… I hope you all enjoyed the event. Looking forward to Vol. 9 around February or March 2010!!!
